At the Mockingjay Part 2 press conference, star Jennifer Lawrence explained just how she had come to meet the illusive Bill Murray backstage at San Diego Comic-Con today.

Lawrence and Murray ran into each other backstage at Hall H in between their respective panels on Thursday morning. Lawrence was in attendance for the hotly anticipated Mockingjay, Part 2 panel, where the first full-length trailer for the final Hunger Games installment debuted. The trailer won’t be released online immediately, but you can read all of the details in our panel report.

Murray made a surprise appearance, and his Comic-Con debut, during the Open Road panel for Rock the Kasbah which preceded the Mockingjay event. After his panel he left the venue through the audience rather than by going backstage, because Bill Murray does what Bill Murray wants. The swarm of fans who surrounded him as he exited to take photos and shake his hand were understandably thrilled.

When asked later about the encounter between the two, Lawrence jumped at the chance to share her love for Murray. “I (and the rest of the world) have been a huge fan of Bill Murray for a really long time and I always wanted to meet him,” she explained.

“I kind of spoke to him through Woody Harrelson, I would send emails to Woody, mostly when I was drunk, of things that I always wanted to say to Bill Murray. So he received them. So just the fact that Bill Murray knows that I exist was like part 1. Part 2, he wanted to speak to me, and then,” she added in rush, “he mentioned something about us working together. So I’m excited about that. That was cool.”

We’re not sure if the world could take Lawrence and Murray together in a film; it might just be too much awesome in one place. Still, we’re willing to risk it if they are.
