Ever since The Hunger Games movie adaptation was announced, many fans have been concerned that the violence found in the books would be toned down too much in an attempt to gain a lower rating.  In a new interview, actress Jennifer Lawerence has spoken about how the graphic content was approached.

Earlier this week, we told you that seven seconds of footage had been cut from the films UK release in order to meet the requirements for a 12A release – and the news proved to be controversial amongst Hypable readers.  This morning, Lawerence appeared on BBC Breakfast to talk about how the film-makers weighed up the challenges that arose when trying to get across the brutality of the Capitol whilst still keeping a relatively low certificate.

“We had to have a PG-13 rating,” she said, “but violence is at the heart of the movie, because it has to make people angry enough to start an uprising. We couldn’t water down the movie.”

You can watch the full video interview over on the BBC Website.

Do you think that a 12A/PG-13 rating will be too soft for the film?
