Jeffrey Dean Morgan is officially set to star in a new horror movie Shrine based on a book with the same name by author James Herbert.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is headed back to the big screen in a new horror movie called Shrine. He’s set to play a journalist who encounters the supernatural as he tries to revive his career.

As Deadline reports, a series of small miracles helps Morgan’s character revive his struggling journalism career. However, what initially seemed like serendipitous moments of divine intervention soon reveal themselves to have a much more sinister nature.

Shrine is coming to us from Screen Gems, and Ghost House’s Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are producing. Production on the film is set to begin in February.

We’re pretty excited for this one, as Morgan has worked with Ghost House in the past for the film The Possession. While the movie itself got some mixed reviews, the story was captivating, and with the unique element of featuring a Dibbuk box, it made it stand out from the pack of other possession horror flicks.

It’s unclear what exactly lies behind the miraculous acts Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character experiences in Shrine. Because his character is described as a “disgraced journalist,” it makes one wonder if he’s experiencing some sort of career boost thanks to a deal with the devil (and really, the guy who plays John Winchester should know better than to make a demon deal just to boost his career, right?) or if Morgan’s character has an enemy who is using sinister and supernatural means to destroy him.

Either way, we’re incredibly excited to see what is in store for us in Shrine. Because Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Ghost House brought us a horror film with a less mainstream slice of supernatural lore in The Possession, we have hopes that Shrine will bring us some unique and super spooky storytelling. We’ll keep you posted as more news breaks on this movie.
