A few weeks ago it was revealed that Jeff Goldblum will be playing the Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok, and now he’s teasing his preparations for the role!

Although Marvel has officially revealed the cast for Thor: Ragnarok, the plot for the film is still being kept a secret. When the announcement was made, Producer Kevin Feige teased that, “The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet.”

Although we’re not sure what role the Grandmaster will be playing yet, Goldblum is already preparing for the role. He told Empire Online what drew him to the role, saying, “He’s a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker, an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells. I thought, ‘I can do that, I’ll bet!'”

“I’m working on my part every day. I’m a sponge, researching,” Goldblum went on to say. Speaking about director Taika Waititi, Goldblum said that he is “encouraging me to improvise and make it my own, and that’s what I’m trying to do. I hope he doesn’t throw me out on the first day!”

The veteran actor also said that he will be filming the role for three to four weeks in Brisbane and is excited to join the rest of the cast there. We’re probably even more excited than he is to see how his portrayal turns out. Hopefully it’s a role that could appear in future films as well.
