Big awards always make a network happy, and Jeff Daniels’ surprising win for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series (especially over fan favorite, Bryan Cranston) at the Emmys may just be the push HBO needs to finally announce The Newsroom‘s renewal.

While we have heard from Thomas Sadoski and Jeff Daniels that The Newsroom season 3 is basically a go, HBO has yet to officially announce its renewal. HBO usually announces its shows’ renewals shortly after the newest seasons begin, but due to scheduling conflicts with its creator and writer, Aaron Sorkin, The Newsroom‘s return has yet to be confirmed for season 3.

So, what does Jeff Daniels’ Emmy win mean? It means that HBO has yet another award to add to their monstrous Emmy award cabinet (That thing must be bigger than Westeros by now…), as long as Aaron Sorkin is on board, The Newsroom will probably have a place at HBO. Meanwhile, we will continue to anxiously await official word from HBO about The Newsroom season 3.

Here are the twitter reactions of a few of The Newsroom cast members to Jeff Daniels’ big win:

And the AARP chimed in as well after being mentioned in his acceptance speech:

The Newsroom finished airing its second season last Sunday night, and can be seen on HBOGo as well as in numerous repeat airings on HBO.
