The CW’s Roswell reboot has found its leading lady!

According to The Wrap, actress Jeanine Mason has officially landed the lead role in The CW’ upcoming reboot of Roswell.

The actress, whose resume boasts winning So You Think You Can Dance and Grey’s Anatomy will be playing the character of Liz Ortecho on the series.

As we reported just last year, the upcoming Roswell reboot is set to put a very current spin on the alien teen drama we fell in love with back in the late ’90s and early ’00s.

In the new iteration of the series, Liz (Mason) will be a biomedical researcher and the daughter of undocumented immigrants. When Liz suddenly finds herself returning to her hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, she is reunited with her high school crush, who now happens to be a police officer.

There’s definitely more to Liz’s old flame than meets the eye, though. It turns out he’s actually an alien who’s been secretly hiding his origins for years.

It definitely sounds like The CW is looking to put a more grown up twist to the Max and Liz love story we all fell in love with on the original series, which aired on The WB and UPN back in the day.

As much as we’re sure diehard Roswell fans would have loved to see a revival that reunited some of our favorite cast members, we’ll be interested to see if The CW can capture the magic of the original series in a different way with their upcoming reboot.

There’s no word yet on who else will join Mason on screen, but we do know that there’s one high profile CW favorite that’s set to partake in the pilot.

On top of Mason’s casting news, we also learned that Vampire Diaries showrunner Julie Plec will be directing the pilot, which has been written by Carina Adly MacKenzie.

From there, if the series officially gets picked up, Plec will stay on and serve as executive producer alongside Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, and Lawrence Bender.

Kevin Kelly Brown, who was also involved with the original series, has also signed on to execute produce should the show receive a full order.
