Late night talk show hosts Jay Leno (host of The Tonight Show) and Jimmy Fallon (Late Night) took on rumors of the latter anchor taking over the prime 11:35 slot in a great duet.

The skit was sandwiched in between their two shows. As The Tonight Show ended, Leno walked off stage and was inundated by media asking him for comment about recent headlines saying Fallon will be taking over. He then calls Fallon and clears the air between the two before breaking into a spin-off of West Side Story‘s “Tonight.”

We’re left with a cliffhanger of sorts by the end. Fallon gives Leno an emotional “Thanks,” to which Leno nods his head and peers out the window. There was very little laugher at the end, and the moment felt serious.

It looks like this is Leno’s way of giving his blessing to the rumors and lets us know he’s well aware and in control of the situation.

Watch below:

The New York Times reported two weeks ago that NBC was looking to move The Tonight Show to New York for the first time since the 1960s, at which point Fallon will take over (sometime in 2014).

Funnily, Leno had no problem joking in the skit that he could easily get a show over at Fox or replace Dave Letterman. He’s known for being a workaholic, so one of those options could be feasible.
