The Crow (1994) was a staple of many childhoods, and the idea of a reboot is both frightening and exciting. But what if Jason Momoa is at the helm?

First thing’s first: There has been no official confirmation of the report, but there are some very strong signs pointing to the affirmative.

The news comes via Mashabale, who spotted an image on Momoa’s Instagram (below) indicating he may be near to closing the deal.

Mashable also states that several sources close to the film have confirmed the news to them, saying it won’t interfere with his upcoming role as Aquaman in the DC superhero film of the same name.

The other man in the picture is Corin Hardy, the director of this Crow reboot. If you look at the hashtags, it’s clear that Momoa is more than just a little excited to announce his next project. Mum’s the word right now, but hopefully the deal will close soon and we’ll get official confirmation that Momoa’s got the role.

The synopsis for the original film, which itself is an adaptation of the comic book of the same name by James O’Barr, reads:

The night before his wedding, musician Eric Draven and his fiancée are brutally murdered by members of a violent inner-city gang. On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and assumes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger. Tracking down the thugs responsible for the crimes and mercilessly murdering them, Eric eventually confronts head gangster Top Dollar to complete his macabre mission.

Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee, starred in the original film and tragically died of an accidental shooting while on set, with the film being released posthumously.
