The remake of The Crow has hit yet another snag, this time with the film’s star, Jason Momoa, and the film’s director bowing out of the movie.

Attempts have been made to reboot The Crow franchise for years now to no avail. However, with the casting of Jason Momoa in the lead role of Eric Draven, it seemed that the reboot would finally happen, with the film even getting an October 2019 release date.

However, as Deadline reports, the franchise just hit yet another snag. It was recently revealed that both Jason Momoa and the film’s director, Corin Hardy, have formally withdrawn from the movie.

Reportedly, the exits are due to creative and financial differences with Davis Films’ Samuel Hadida, who holds the rights to the film. Production was set to start within the next month in Budapest, with pre-production already in full swing, so two big exits like this so close to production will likely put a serious delay on the film.

The Crow first hit movie theaters in 1994 starring Brandon Lee and was a hit with audiences, though the film’s three sequels never lived up to the original. And while the original is definitely a product of its time, fans still have so much love for the original film that movie studios couldn’t help but entertain the idea of bringing the franchise back.

Over the years, several different actors had been rumored to be attached to a reboot of The Crow. Luke Evans was on board to star as Eric Draven, but he ultimately dropped out due to lack of progress.

It’s unclear what will happen to the reboot now that it has once again lost its star and its director. We can only hope that the reboot can step out of this endless state of limbo it has been in, and bring Eric Draven’s story back from the dead.
