After all that kerfuffle about Jared Leto’s metod Joker, Suicide Squad audiences were baffled to learn that his role had been cut to a glorified cameo. Here’s the Joker we should have seen.

Ever since critics released their infamous slew of terrible Suicide Squad reviews, the internet has been wondering what went wrong (or, of course, if it was just one big conspiracy).

One major problem with the movie seems to be the lack of Joker scenes. While Jared Leto’s performance (along with Margot Robbie’s turn as Harley Quinn) is considered one of the movie’s strong points, it seems most of the Joker’s big moments were simply too wild for the PG-13 rating that curtailed the final cut of the film.

Now, Jared Leto has spoken out about some of his cut scenes and he is, unsurprisingly, as disappointed as the rest of us.

“Were there any that didn’t get cut?” he said dryly when IGN asked him about it. “I’m asking you, were there any that didn’t get cut? There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start. I think that the Joker… we did a lot of experimentation on the set, we explored a lot. There’s so much that we shot that’s not in the film.”

A little worryingly (let’s hope he’s still being method here), Leto added, “If I die anytime soon, it’s probably likely that it’ll surface somewhere. That’s the good news about the death of an actor is all that stuff seems to come out.”

Let’s hope we only have to wait for a director’s cut of Suicide Squad for all the juicy experimentation that — probably — would have made David Ayer’s movie a lot better than the critics ended up rating it.
