Jared Leto’s next project will find the actor portraying yet another comic book character.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Suicide Squad star Jared Leto has officially signed on to star in Sony Pictures’ upcoming film, Morbius.

Originally created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane, the upcoming film centers on a scientist named Dr. Michael Morbius, a man who attempts to cure the rare blood disease coursing through his veins. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned, and as a result, he self-inflicts a form of vampirism unto himself, thus becoming Morbius the Living Vampire.

The blood thirsty antihero was actually originally introduced as part the Amazing Spider-Man universe back in 1971, meaning Morbius additionally serves as an opportunity for Sony to continue expanding its Marvel entities.

The production company has also fleshed out things behind the scenes.

The upcoming Marvel flick will be helmed by Safe House and Life helmer Daniel Espinosa. The Scandinavian filmmaker will be directing from a script written by Bure Sharpless and Matt Sazama; the co-writers’ most recent credits include penning the script for Netflix’s Lost in Space reboot.

There’s no word yet on when Sony plans to release Morbius.

Morbius isn’t the only comic book flick coming down the pipeline for the Oscar winner.

In addition, we learned earlier this month that Leto is gearing up to star in and executive produce Warner Bros.’ upcoming stand alone movie centered on the infamous Batman villain, The Joker.

The film will center on Leto’s Suicide Squad villain and will exist in a separate universe from WB’s other planned stand alone Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix.
