Who better to take on the role of eccentric pop artist Andy Warhol than eccentric actor Jared Leto?

Andy Warhol is perhaps best known for his works depicting Campbell’s soup cans and Marilyn Monroe. He was an American artist and a leader to the Pop Art movement, often dealing with themes of celebrity and advertising.

He was controversial in his work and in his lifestyle, being openly gay before any such movement was put into place to make living an LGBT life more acceptable. His life was full of art and music and color, making him a rich subject for any biopic.

Variety is now reporting that the artist is indeed the subject of one such biopic, titled Warhol, which will see Jared Leto in the lead role.

Leto has been known for taking on difficult and consuming roles. You only need to look to his time on Suicide Squad as The Joker to realize how seriously he throws himself into his characters. Reports of disturbing “presents” ending up on his co-stars’ front steps is just the tip of the iceberg.

Whether or not you agree with his methods, Leto does seem like the perfect actor to dive deeply into Warhol’s life and make it come alive onscreen.

The actor will produce alongside Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Fifty Shades of Grey), while Terence Winter (Wolf of Wall Street, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos) will adapt the script from the book Warhol: The Biography by Victor Bockris.

Leto is also known for his Academy Award-winning role in Dallas Buyers Club. He recently joined the Blade Runner sequel alongside Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, and Mackenzie Davis.
