Jane the Virgin season 1, episode 15 was not what anyone expected, least of all Rafael. Read on for the full recap.

Jane the Virgin was hilarious and heartbreaking all in the same episode, an impressive feat. Let’s break it down from the least to most shocking!

When we last left Rogelio and Xo, they had finally admitted their feelings for each other. When we next pick up they are just expressing them again, in the physical way. They are still having difficulties expressing their true feelings, as Xo tells him she’s pregnant, then lies to see how he really feels. Rogelio also is keeping his less-than-stellar work environment from Xo and the two end up fighting. After some harsh truths from Jane, Xo tells Rogelio she isn’t pregnant as she sees just how miserable his new show is. The two do make up and decide to move in together! Progress!

With Petra finally in control of something in her life, and on her own with no men or mother around, she is planning on firing Lachlan. Luckily for her, Rafael reminds her that if she fires him he will receive a million dollars. Lachlan, unsurprisingly, decides to blackmail Petra with their sex tape and tries to get Rafael in on his scheme. Rafael tells Petra about it and she turns around and releases the tape on her own and asks Rafael to help her with the hotel. We’ll call it a win.

On the more personal side, Petra is being slightly stalked by her dead lover’s twin brother Aaron. He is Jain, an Indian religion, which means he is calm and doesn’t eat roots and blah, blah, blah. He asks Petra if she knows what happened to his family’s heirloom, his mother’s necklace. She has it and gives it to him. If you were expecting a small beautiful necklace, you were then surprised when she handed over a gaudy oval-shaped one instead. If you thought that as soon as Aaron held it in his hand he would smash it open, you are correct! Inside is an USB drive. The plot thickens!

While we are not one to feel sorry for Michael, this just wasn’t his episode. The poor guy has a bunch of run-ins with Jane, first telling her that her favorite romance writer is in the hotel and that she should give the author her own novel. In flashbacks we learn that Jane fell in love with Michael because he fell for the stories and used the book to plot his engagement ring purchase. Poor Michael has to keep telling people that the baby isn’t his and that they are not together.

Jane still has some kind of feelings for Michael, which doesn’t help her current situation. First she pauses Rafael’s request to move in with him and then during a private reading by her author she does the worst thing possible to Rafael’s extremely romantic proposal: she asks to talk to him privately. She tells him that this wasn’t her goal and that while she loves him, she needs to think it over.

Our Jane, always the (over)thinker, ends up possibly ruining her current relationship, in two ways. She tells Rafael that while a marriage is something she wants with him, it’s too soon. He understands but needs a minute to let it sink in. After a hilarious encounter with her idol that results in a 90 minute massage and some superb acting, she runs into Michael. She is so animated and they look so natural. Who sees this? Poor, rejected Rafael.
