The CW’s newest anthology series will set out to put a contemporary twist on Jane Austen’s most beloved stories.

According to TV Line, The CW is currently in the process of developing a brand new series titled Modern Austen.

Described as a one-hour drama series, Modern Austen will take its cues from Jane Austen’s novels, reimagining the author’s classic stories into six modern tales.

The new show is set to be an anthology series with each season focusing on a different Austen novel.

Up first, the network will be looking to tackle Jane Austen’s timeless classic, Pride and Prejudice. As part of the contemporary reimagining, the plan is for Modern Austen’s take to be set in present day San Francisco.

Behind the camera, the forthcoming series hails from Eleanor Burgess, who most recently worked on HBO’s Perry Mason. Burgess will serve as writer and executive producer on Modern Austen. Others also set to produce alongside Burgess include Stephanie Allain and Gabrielle Ebron.

Modern Austen will be far from the first time that Jane Austen’s stories have been given the adaptation treatment. In addition to more traditional period drama adaptations, Austen’s beloved stories have also served as inspiration for modern day adaptations such as Clueless, which is based off of Emma.

With no shortage of Austen adaptations to choose from, it’ll be interesting to see how The CW goes about setting Modern Austen apart from the rest.

Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect the new anthology series to debut.
