Jamie Foxx will be stepping into the ring to play Mike Tyson in an all new biographical limited series about the heavyweight champion.

According to Variety, Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx has signed on to play the titular role of Mike Tyson in an upcoming limited series about the boxer’s life.

For his part, Jamie Foxx has been attached to portray the heavyweight boxing champion for quite some time. Originally, the plan was for Foxx to play the boxer in a big screen biopic. Now, that project has been expanded into a limited series format, which offers up more time with which to tell the story of Tyson’s life in its entirety.

Foxx isn’t the only big name attached to the Tyson limited series.

Behind the camera, the task of directing will fall to Antoine Fuqua. Fuqua will direct via a script written by Colin Preston. Meanwhile, Martin Scorsese is on board to serve as an executive producer on the project through his Sikelia Productions banner.

In addition to directing, Fuqua will also produce through Fuqua Films. Jamie Foxx will also serve as an executive producer on the project along with Mike Tyson himself, his wife, Kiki, Sophie Watts, and John Ryan. The Tysons, Watts, and Ryan will all be producing on behalf of the boxer’s Legends Only League.

In a statement announcing the limited series, Tyson spoke of how excited he is to finally tell his life story.

“I have been looking to tell my story for quite some time,” said Tyson per Variety. “With the recent launch of Legends Only League and the excitement from fans following my return to the ring, now feels like the perfect moment. I look forward to collaborating with Martin, Antoine, Jamie, and the entire creative team to bring audiences a series that not only captures my professional and personal journey but also inspires and entertains.”

Tyson starring Jamie Foxx has yet to find a network or a streaming service to call home. As such, there’s currently no word on when we can expect to see the limited series premiere.
