Jamie Dornan has been offered the role of Christian Grey in E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey, Variety reports.

Dornan was one actor who had been in the running over the past couple weeks after Charlie Hunnam departed the project. He tested with Dakota Johnson – who will play Anastasia – last weekend.

The actor appeared on ABC’s Once Upon a Time as The Huntsman. More recently he starred in the British drama The Fall.

Conveniently, Dornan is also an underwear model:

Fifty Shades of Grey is slated to begin filming next month to meet an August 1, 2014 release date and will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson. The film is based on the first in a trilogy by E.L. James, and Universal has every hope to turn it into a three-part movie series.

Other names who were reportedly under consideration were Theo James and Alexander Skarsgard.

In this promotional video for Once Upon a Time you can hear from Dornan about his role on the show:

The Fifty Shades of Grey book was the number one selling novel in 2012. The franchise has spawned off numerous products thanks to its wild success, including wines and sex toys.

What do you think of Dornan as Christian Grey?

In our opinion, we find him more physically attractive and can definitely see him appealing to a wider audience of fans. We could be completely wrong about his looks compared to Hunnam’s, so feel free to correct us in the comments.

Hunnam announced his departure two Saturdays ago citing his busy television schedule, but insiders say that he actually departed because he got cold feet about the high profile project that would type-cast him in a role that was frequently made fun of.

Thanks, Variety.
