Jamie Blackley joins Chloe Moretz in the movie adaptation of Gayle Forman’s Young Adult bestseller, If I Stay.

Jamie Blackey will play Adam, love interest to Chloe Moretz’ Mia. If I Stay follows 17-year-old Mia after she experiences a catastrouphic car accident and is left in a coma. Mia has an out of body experience as she watched those around her beg her to wake up, and must decide whether to stay, or to go.

Adam is Mia’s musician boyfriend, who must deal with the accident and the prospect that Mia will never wake up. The book is told primarily in flashbacks, as we expect the movie will be much the same.

Blackley has played small roles in Snow White and the Huntsman and London Boulevard, however the If I Stay movie could be his breakout part.

Author Gayle Forman tweeted her excitement about the announcement:

When we spoke to Forman earlier this year, she told us “I don’t know that I would ever want to write a screenplay, but I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to write the screenplay for If I Stay.”

If I Stay was picked up by MGM Back in June, after originally being optioned by Summit Entertainment. RJ Cutler is set to direct the film, while Lionsgate will distribute with MGM co-producing the project.

If I Stay was published back in 2009, and is another in the long list of Young Adult books making it to the silver screen. The sequel, Where She Went, was published in 2011.
