We’re one step closer to Guardians of the Galaxy 2: writer-director James Gunn has officially completed his first draft of the script!

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn revealed on Twitter that the draft for the highly anticipated sequel is finally done:

The first movie in the Marvel series came out in 2014, with Guardians 2 scheduled for May 5, 2017.

Filming is expected to star in London next year. Chris Pratt will be back as Peter “Star-Lord” Quill, and we’ll probably see most of the other main cast members return — including, as we learned back in April, Karen Gillan as Nebula.

Both Gunn and Pratt have been teasing the plot of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in recent months: speaking to Vulture, James Gunn revealed that the sequel would be “a story about fathers.”

“There’s a lot of stuff I’m excited about in the new movie,” Gunn said. “I’m still excited about Star-Lord’s character and where he goes. At its heart, Guardians is a story about families, and if the first film was about him and his mother, this is a story about fathers. So it’s exciting to go there.”

Gunn has been dropping a few more hints about Guardians’ role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: we know that the Hulk will not be showing up in the sequel, and that Peter’s father — if he is indeed revealed — will not be the same character as in the comics.
