Disney has fired Guardians of the Galaxy mastermind James Gunn from writing and directing the third installment of the popular Marvel franchise after disturbing tweets from his past resurfaced.

The tweets were discovered by a conservative blogger who likely had a vendetta against Gunn for the outspoken, left-leaning remarks he makes on social media.

The tweets in question consistently made “jokes” about sex with young boys. You can see several of them in this image.

In a statement, Disney Chairman Alan Horn told The Hollywood Reporter, “The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him.”

Earlier today Gunn tweeted, “Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor.”

Gunn has been a member of the Marvel family since directing the first GOTG to critical acclaim in 2014. Before being fired he was in the midst of writing the third installment which had a 2020 release date.

The tweets uncovered by Jack Posobiec user range in dates between 2009 to 2011. The last Guardians movie debuted in 2017, but the characters were heavily involved in Avengers: Infinity War earlier this year.
