James Gunn has confirmed that the release dates for at least two upcoming movies will not be changing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a Twitter conversation with fans on Sunday, April 12, James Gunn took some time to ease the world’s collective anxieties.
While it seems like everything in the world is being delayed or cancelled, the director of DC’s The Suicide Squad and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies is reassuring us that two of his upcoming movies won’t be.
We previously reported that The Suicide Squad wrapped filming as James Gunn shared a heartfelt post about what the experience had meant to him, especially since it fell right in between losing his father and his dog.
In response to a fan question, Gunn confirmed that they’ve been able to move post-production to people’s homes, so everything is on schedule to hit the movie’s release date of August 6, 2021.

While Guardians of the Galaxy 3 didn’t have a slated release date yet, Gunn also confirmed that plans for it are “exactly the same as they were before coronavirus,” so it doesn’t look like we should expect any serious delays!

We previously reported that Disney had moved many of their upcoming release dates around, including those for Black Widow, The Eternals, Shang Chi, Doctor Strange 2, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther 2, and Captain Marvel 2.
It’s good to hear that the release plans for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is holding firm despite everything, at least for now.
