Music is a huge part of the Guardians of the Galaxy, both onscreen and off, and James Gunn just released Awesome Mix Vol. 0 that shows fans what tunes inspired James Gunn himself behind the scenes.
Peter Quill has traveled all around the galaxy rocking out to the tunes of his two, beloved mix tapes, Awesome Mix Vol. 1 and Awesome Mix Vol. 2. And while music plays a huge role in getting Quill and the rest of the Guardians ready for action, it turns out that music played an equally important role while filming the Guardians movies as well.

Director James Gunn took to Twitter to reveal what he’s calling Awesome Mix Vol. 0. This is Gunn’s personal mix that he created to listen to while filming the first movie, specifically, the partying scenes in the Boot of Jemiah.

Naturally, since this mix was meant for James Gunn and not Peter Quill, the music is a bit different from the 70s rock that Quill tends to gravitate towards. Still, it really is an awesome mix, and the songs will absolutely get you pumped for whatever adventures lie ahead of you today.
It’s really fun to see what some of our favorite creators use to get themselves inspired and ready to make awesome stuff for us, and we’re so happy Gunn decided to make this mix available to the public.
