James Dashner talked with World & Film about the most surprising aspects of filming The Maze Runner.

In James Dasher’s article with World & Film, he talks about the impressive transformation that occurred between the first initial script to the last draft used before shooting and states that it was a surprising element to behold.

Dashner also commented on the incredibly large team assembled to film a movie, and remarked about how amazing it was to see his own book made into a film. Understandably, it was both a surreal and exciting prospect for him.

He also shares some exciting information surrounding the notoriously frightening Grievers: “The Grievers. I’ll just say it: They are way better than the ones in the book! Haha. I mean it. Wes and his team totally captured the spirit of the creatures, and all the parts are there, but a thousand times cooler. They are awesome and terrifying. I really think people are going to be talking about the Grievers a lot after seeing this film.”

Dashner has a high opinion of the director of the film, Wes Ball, and shares in the article that he was surprised that his greatest expectations for Ball were exceeded many times over.

Heartwarmingly Close

The author wraps up the interview by sharing that the individuals on set were heartwarmingly close with each other: “I don’t know if it’s common or not, but there was a camaraderie on set that meant the world to me. Everyone seemed to love everyone else. And the cast still keeps in touch and gets together whenever possible. And they all treated me with such respect, made me feel like a king. I miss them all, and I want the movie to do well for them just as much for me. I have a very good feeling about it!”

Fans who have been following the filming process should be aware of just how true this statement is.

Since day one, the young and energetic cast have been sharing pictures and stories all across their various social media platforms, welcoming each other as well as fans of the book into the entire filming process.

The Maze Runner was shot in Louisiana last summer and will be released September 19, 2014.
