CBS is employing their star of late-night once again tapping James Corden as the host for the 70th Annual Tony Awards that will air this June.

The host of The Late, Late Show is heading to primetime this June to host the Tony Awards! Corden is no stranger to the stage and even has a Tony to show for it.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Tony Awards,” said James Corden in a press release today. “Both times I’ve worked on Broadway have been amongst the happiest times of my professional life. I consider it a huge honor to be asked to host such an incredible night. It’s gonna be fun, I can’t wait to dust off my tap shoes!”

Corden recently appeared in the Disney theatrical version of Into the Woods as the Baker opposite Emily Blunt. The actor is not shy to use his musical chops on his program, often incorporating singing into his segments.

This Sunday James Corden will host a special live episode of The Late, Late Show following Stephen Colbert’s live show from New York after Super Bowl 50 concludes on CBS. Corden’s guests will include Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick and Adam DeVine in addition to a special edition of his hit segment Carpool Karaoke with music legend Sir Elton John.

Watch a preview of his most recent pickup, the lead singer of Coldplay and Super Bowl halftime performer, Chris Martin.

“We are thrilled to have James Corden not only as a member of the CBS family, but as host of this year’s Tony Awards,” said Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music and Live Events, CBS Entertainment. “James is the ultimate performer – actor, singer and comedian – and the perfect choice to host this prestigious and always entertaining live television event.” Premiering less than a year ago, The Late, Late Show has quickly become one of the most talked about shows on late night. This is thanks in large part to Corden’s charismatic, and unique approach to staging interview segments along with the incorporation of hilarious skits.

Charlotte St. Martin, President of The Broadway League, and Heather Hitchens, President of the American Theatre Wing had this to say about Corden’s involvement with the Awards, “James is one of those rare performers whose gifts translate perfectly to both the Broadway stage and the television screen, making him the ideal choice to host the Tony Awards. The last time he was at the Tonys, he went home with one. We think he’ll have even more fun as host. This is going to be one unforgettable show.

The nominations for the 2016 Tony Awards will be announced live from The Paramount Hotel on May 3.

The 2016 Tony Awards will air Sunday June 12 on CBS.
