Science fiction fans can look forward to Avatar maestro James Cameron taking them through the history of the genre in 2018.

During the weekend’s TCA press conferences, AMC announced their intentions to broadcast a six-episode documentary series titled James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction.

As reported by The Wrap, each of the six one-hour episodes will focus on one “big question” — big concept ideas that have occupied the human mind and been the topic of sci-fi narratives like the apocalypse, AI technology and space travel — and examine works of science fiction that have explored them.

Says James Cameron in a statement:

“When I was a kid, I basically read any book with a spaceship on the cover, and I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey many, many times. The movie inspired me to become a filmmaker. I liked the special effects, but I really loved the ideas and the questions behind them: How will the world end? Will technology destroy us? What does it mean to be human?”

We can expect James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction to debut on AMC some time in 2018. This is also the year that Avatar 2 is finally going to come out, so it’ll be a big year for Cameron!
