James Cameron is aiming high with his upcoming Avatar sequels. Looks like we can expect great things from the blue man group.

Avatar changed the 3D cinema experience forever when it premiered in 2009.

Starring Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana, the movie (not to be confused with The Last Airbender) had a worldwide box-office gross of about $2.8 billion, which makes it one of the highest-grossing films ever in terms of theater ticket sales.

James Cameron is busy planning a whopping three sequels, which will continue the story of Jake Sully, Neytiri and the Na’vi. Speaking to Empire Magazine, Cameron instructs us to start raising our expectations.

“They’re gonna be bitchin’,” Cameron promises. “You will sh** yourself with your mouth wide open.”

Wow. We’re… looking forward to it? And also a little concerned.

The Avatars will be shot at 48 FPS (frames per second), as opposed to the rumoured 60 FPS.

Cameron developed the movies’ storylines with a writing team that includes Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. He then divided them into groups to tackle one sequel each.

The sequels are currently titled Avatar 2, Avatar 3 and Avatar 4, although they are expected to have individual indicators. The first movie is set to be released on December 25, 2016.

Both Saldana and Worthington are expected to return for the series.

Sigourney Weaver will reportedly appear in movies 2 and 3 as well, despite the fact that (spoiler alert!) her character Dr. Augustine died in the first one.

Do you think the ‘Avatar’ sequels will live up to Cameron’s hype?
