It’s been several years since Jack Nicholson took on a major role in a feature film, but there’s no time like the present, and the actor is taking advantage.

The last time Jack Nicholson appeared on the silver screen was back in 2010 with How Do You Know, alongside Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson. In 2013, we reported on speculation that the Shining actor had retired from acting, though those reported were refuted by someone close to the actor.

Nicholson does appear to be healthy enough to take on another leading role, however, as Variety is reporting he will star in Toni Erdmann. In fact, it seems to have been Nicholson’s idea to acquire the rights to begin with.

The original film was German, with Paramount Pictures purchasing the rights to the English-language remake. The original writer and director, Maren Ade, will serve as an executive producer. Paramount is still looking for a director for the remake.

Of the movie, Variety states, “The original film starred Peter Simonischek and Sandra Huller and followed a practical joking father who tries to reconnect with his hard working daughter by creating an outrageous alter ego and posing as her CEO’s life coach.”

Update: While we originally suggested Jennifer Lawrence would be a good fit for the role of the daughter in the film (since the two seem to like each other so much), Variety is now reporting Kristen Wiig has landed the role.
