Fyre Festival might have crashed and burned, but that isn’t discouraging Ja Rule from trying to create another giant music festival.

If you didn’t hear about Fyre Festival while it was happening, chances are you’ve checked out one of the two documentaries chronicling the rise and immense fall of the doomed music festival that are streaming on Netflix and Hulu. Rapper Ja Rule was a part of the team who brought Fyre to the public, and though his first efforts at creating a flashy, luxurious music festival failed, he isn’t giving up.

According to a statement he gave to TMZ, Ja Rule told reporters that he is ready to try again. He called Fyre Festival the most “iconic festival that never was,” and will be launching a festival called ICONNic Festival to pair with his new talent-booking app, ICONN (or Ice Connect).

Of course, the big question is whether or not investors and festival attendees will trust the rapper again. He co-founded Fyre Festival alongside Billy McFarland, and while Ja Rule still claims that Fyre wasn’t a scam, McFarland got some serious prison time for defrauding festivalgoers.

While McFarland ended up in jail, Ja Rule has been able to escape the debacle unscathed. Though the rapper did co-found the festival alongside of McFarland, Ja Rule has claimed time and again that he was scammed and tricked by McFarland just like everyone else.

Ja Rule told reporters that despite the meme-like quality Fyre Festival took on (remember the images of those sad cheese sandwiches?), the festival’s failure isn’t funny to him. He went on to explain that he really wanted Fyre to be special, and the fact that it wasn’t is “heartbreaking.”

Will ICONNic Festival be a victorious start to Ja Rule’s comeback and redemption story, or will it prove to be another epic disaster? There aren’t any details surrounding what to expect from the new event, so we will just have to wait and see what news comes from the ICONN HQ before deciding if this festival is worth attending.
