Australia’s ABC1 aired their interview with The Casual Vacancy author J.K. Rowling last night, and the full piece which is viewable here offers some new comments from Rowling about Harry Potter and her final book Deathly Hallows.

A 2007 documentary chronicled Rowling’s completion of Deathly Hallows in Edinburgh’s Balmoral Hotel, but for the first time the author is retelling a funny story of entering her hotel room’s mini bar as soon as she finished.

“I finished it, balled my eyes out, went to the mini bar, I had one of those pathetic little half bottles of champagne – it’s not very rock and roll – downed that, went home covered in mascara and a little bit drunk,” she said. When the reporter asked why she was crying, she tried to get across her feelings at that time. “It was so huge.” Rowling paused to find the words. “Any writer finishing a book will know what I mean what I say you’ve lived a parallel existence and suddenly the door closes and it’s over.” For her, that existence lasted seventeen years.

Elsewhere in the interview Rowling reveals she has “quite a lot” of manuscripts in her drawers right, but two children’s books and one other adult novel are towards the top of her priority list. As for a return to Potter, she says the trio’s story is definitely over but she can never say never to a possible Wizarding World return.
