Would you like to sit in J.K. Rowling’s chair? Yeah, us too. Sadly that privilege is reserved for millionaires. #ThatWeasleyLife.

“You may not find me pretty, but don’t judge on what you see.”

This is the inscription on J.K. Rowling’s chair, which was just auctioned off for charity, selling for almost $400,000.

And this isn’t just any old kitchen chair. “I wrote Harry Potter while sitting on this chair,” is written on this chair, and presumably that’s the main reason why any of us would want to get our hands on it.

Specifically, she wrote both Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets while sitting on this shabby old thing.

Imagine sitting down to write, knowing that your favorite author sat right in that same spot and crafted the fantastic world of Harry Potter. Surely that’s enough to get your creativity flowing!

Of course the price of inspiration isn’t cheap: CNN writes that the chair was auctioned off at a rare books auction held in New York City on Wednesday for the total price of $394,000. For that, we hope Jo threw in a few writing tips, or perhaps a productivity spell, into the mix.

Especially since it apparently isn’t even that comfortable. “My nostalgic side is quite sad to see it go but my back isn’t,” Rowling wrote in a letter to the highest bidder.

While the auction wasn’t for charity, the previous owner of the chair has announced that he will be donating 10% of the winning price to J.K. Rowling’s children’s charity Lumos.
