HBO Max will soon play home to three new one-hour dramas hailing from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions banner.

In a press release sent out on Thursday (April 16), Warner Media revealed that forthcoming streaming platform HBO Max had given a production commitment to three new original series set to be produced by Bad Robot in partnership with Warner Bros. Television Group.

That the J.J Abrams and Katie McGrath production house is hitting HBO Max in a big way may not come as too much of a shock.

Especially given that in September 2019, we learned Abrams had inked a deal with Warner Media that would find Bad Robot producing several original series and films for the studio’s various divisions — including HBO and Warner Bros. Pictures.

And speaking of Abrams, he’ll be serving as a co-writer on at least one of the three originals coming down the pipeline at HBO Max. Specifically, he’ll be teaming with The Walking Dead scribe, LaToya Morgan, to co-write Duster.

Duster takes place in the 1970s Southwest, and tells the story of a gutsy getaway driver who works for a growing crime syndicate. It follows the driver’s story as his life goes from awful to wildly, stupidly, dangerously awful.

The second series coming to HBO Max via Bad Robot is a horror-thriller inspired by, and featuring characters from, Stephen King’s The Shining.

Titled Overlook, the forthcoming horror series is set to dive into the untold stories which take place in the same hotel as The Shining does.

Finally, J.J. Abrams will be diving into the world of DC comics with a series set in the Justice League Dark universe. As with most comic book adaptations, Bad Robot and HBO Max are keeping tight lipped on details surrounding the Justice League Dark series, so we’ll have to sit tight as we wait for details!

Currently, there’s no word on when we can expect the aforementioned trio of Bad Robot Productions originals to hit the streaming service.

HBO Max is set to go live in May 2020.
