Apparently, J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot have been prepping a Cloverfield sequel titled 10 Cloverfield Lane.

J.J. Abrams is fresh off the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and is using his momentum to push a surprise sequel to his 2008 monster movie Cloverfield.

At first glance, Cloverfield was your average disaster flick: Shot on handheld cameras and never showing its monstrous antagonist, the movie was a mix of Lost and Blair Witch Project — an it worked. Evidently, it worked so well that fans were freaking out when they learned there’s a sequel coming in two months!

Abrams broke the news yesterday, with a trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane. It debuted in front of the first screenings of Michael Bay’s 13 Hours. Note that, like Cloverfield, the film is not actually directed by Abrams, but rather by newcomer Dan Trachtenberg. The script was written by Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken.

Paramount labels the Bad Robot collaboration a “blood relative” of Cloverfield. Writes Abrams in a statement, “The idea came up a long time ago during production. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”

And indeed they have — the movie is set to be released on March 11 of this year. Talk about your short warning.

The synopsis reads:

After a car accident, a young woman awakens in an underground cellar, where most of the action takes place. She fears she has been abducted by a survivalist, who tells her he saved her life and that a chemical attack has left the outside world uninhabitable. Uncertain what to believe, she decides she must escape, whatever dangers she may face outside.

And here’s the trailer, which is just over one minute long:

The movie stars John Goodman, John Gallagher Jr., and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
