iZombie season 1, episode 5, “Flight of the Living Dead,” brought the guest star power with Bradley James and Ryan Hansen playing risk seeking adrenaline junkies.

Egg salad and corn dogs

The episode opens as a group of skydivers take shots and jump out of an airplane. Cut to a dead woman named Holly, strung up in a tree with her parachute deployed. Liv and Ravi chat about their favorite things to eat, as he offers up the dead body as various sticked food items. Peyton calls, distraught that her and Liv’s former sorority sister is the dead skydiver. One of the skydivers accuses another of messing with Holly’s parachute.

Major visits Clive to fill the detective in about the missing Eddie and Jerome. Clive takes pity on Major and says he’ll try his best to put Jerome up higher on the list at Missing Persons.

Liv laments over Holly’s body, describing the deceased as an adventure taker. Ravi tells Liv that she doesn’t have to eat Holly’s brain, but Liv still feels obliged to. At their house, Peyton tells Liv that Holly had a great chance at dying in that she was a risk taker. “I think she was a ‘dying is a consequence of life’ kind of girl,” Liv responds. Liv also thinks that Holly had something figured out that no one else did. Watching a video on Holly’s Facebook of her at a party with Lowell, Liv has a brain flash to Holly encouraging him to jump out of the plane.

Lowell’s charm

Liv visits Clive and tells him to pick up the case of Holly’s death, and asks him to use the helmet cam footage as evidence. The next day, Liv decides to take her bike for a ride down multiple staircases, clearly enjoying the effects of Holly’s brain.

In Clive’s interrogation room, Liv hits Lowell hard with a quick succession of questions. Lowell states that he landed away from the drop zone, and encourages the detective to check out the helmet cam footage to confirm this. Alone with Lowell, Liv asks him about the party she saw on Facebook. He wasn’t sleeping with Holly, but loved her genuine and adventurous personality. Clive comes back in to ask why the helmet cam footage was destroyed.

Clive has Holly’s friend Ren in, who says that not everyone was his friend, and that Lowell was on drugs. Eliza says that she deleted the footage to avoid being sued if the footage of Holly’s death leaked. Carson, who’s dating Eliza, is cocky, but reveals that Lowell shut Holly down. Ren and Eliza reveal that Carson was sleeping with Holly, flashing Liv to an argument between him and Holly. Carson didn’t want Eliza to find out that he and Ren had been together while Carson and Eliza were. It’s discovered that Holly was drugged before she jumped.

In Memoriam

Liv apologies for getting Clive in trouble for investigating too much into Holly’s case, as she tells him of the memorial party for Holly that she’s going to. The detective asks Liv to keep her third eye open when at the party. At the memorial, Liv, Peyton, and Major remark that no one really seems to be partying like someone had just died. Ren, Eliza, and Carson ask Liv to leave, but Liv retorts that one of them likely drugged her before the jump, making Liv the best of friends Holly has in the house.

Digging through Carson’s stuff, Liv finds a prescription sheet, triggering a brain flash of Carson giving out falsified prescriptions to all of his friends. Liv calls Ravi and tells him to look into the doctor’s name on the blank prescription papers, just as Lowell catches Liv in the act of snooping. The two have a drink, and Lowell reveals that Carson was the one who brought the alcohol for the pre-jump shots. Lowell makes drinks with hot sauce and cheers Liv, revealing that he’s dating a zombie (or is one?).

A Major zombie situation

Yep, Lowell’s a zombie. The two undead relate about the full-on zombie mode, as Lowell was experiencing one of those moments right before he jumped. Lowell had Holly go first to keep her safe, and had to keep away from the group until the adrenaline went away. Liv then walks Major out, with him apologizing for interrupting the moment she was having with Lowell.

At the skate park, Clive talks to an in-the-know teen who guides the detective to a bulletin board full of missing persons posters. Liv fills Ravi in about the new zombie she just met, as he teases her for having a crush on the “hot zombie.” Carson’s dad was the doctor helping Carson give out the prescriptions. Carson throws suspicion off himself by revealing telling information about Holly and Eliza’s recent interaction relating to a scandalous email about the intense marketing company that Carson and Eliza work at. Holly wanted to reveal the details of the email, so Eliza shut her up “Tony Soprano style.” Clive breaks down Eliza’s front door, and finds telling signs that she left quickly.

Clive fills in his boss about the runaway Eliza, and is scolded when the detective brings up the missing skate park kids. The scene ends as Clive’s boss mysteriously dumps hot sauce into his coffee…

At the skate park, Major confronts the ice hook zombie that took Eddie’s shoes. Ice hook goes full zombie and beats Major black and blue. At the morgue, Lowell visits Liv. Ravi teases Liv, to which she snarkily replies “Shut up or I’ll eat you.” Lowell comes bearing hot sauce and gives a romantic speech about missing human interaction. As Lowell asks Liv out, a new body rolls in. They make a date for the weekend and Liv races down the streets on a bike, rejoicing her newfound romantic interest.
