FX has renewed the popular adult comedy show It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia for an impressive fifteenth season.

In fact, according to Deadline, the fifteenth season renewal is more than just impressive — it’s record-breaking.

With its 14 seasons to date, It’s Always Sunny had tied ABC’s The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as the longest-running live-action comedy series. However, with this fifteenth season renewal FX’s flagship show has stepped in to become the longest-running live-action comedy series ever.

It’s Always Sunny is written and executive produced by Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day, who also star in the series.

The comedy, which was FX’s first comedy hit and now airs on FXX, follows the misadventures of “The Gang,” a group of five misfit friends: twins Dennis (Glenn Howerton) and Deandra “(Sweet) Dee” Reynolds (Kaitlin Olson), along with their friends Charlie Kelly (Charlie Day) and Ronald “Mac” McDonald (Rob McElhenney), and Frank Reynolds (Danny DeVito), Dennis’ and Dee’s legal father. The Gang runs the fictional Paddy’s Pub, which is an unsuccessful Irish bar in South Philadelphia.

The show’s 14th season, which ran from September to November 2019, featured the gang dealing with Airbnb house guests, a focus group for a screening of Thunder Gun 4: Maximum Cool, and a suicidal man threatening to jump off Paddy’s Pub.

FX chairman John Landgraf described the series as “the first successful deconstruction and reconstruction of a sitcom.”

The news of the renewal for the fifteenth season comes as a relief to fans of the show who were worried that creator/writer Rob McElhenney new Apple TV+ series Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet might take his focus away from the series.

However, it looks like It’s Always Sunny fans have nothing to worry about, as McElhenney stated that ““we’re going to keep doing it forever if people keep watching.”
