Issa Rae is teaming up with Universal Pictures for her next big screen project.

According to The Wrap, Issa Rae is gearing up to develop a brand new romantic musical movie for Universal Pictures.

Titled Love in America, the Insecure star will be developing the film through her production company, ColorCreative.

As cool as Rae’s new project sounds, it looks as though we’ll have to wait until we get more details with regards to what the romantic musical will focus on.

Both studios are keeping plot details under wraps for now. One thing we do know is that the film is based on an original idea by Amy Aniobi and writing team Khiyon Hursey and Harrison Richlin.

Rae and Aniobi are no strangers to working together, as Aniobi works as a writer and producer on Rae’s hit HBO series, Insecure.

There’s currently no word on when we can expect Love in America to make its way to the silver screen, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more news on the project as it moves further and further into development.

Meanwhile, it’s been an exciting week for Rae in particular.

Just a few days ago we learned that the two-time Golden Globe nominee is set to team up with Big Little Lies star Laura Dern on another HBO limited series currently in development.

Titled The Dolls, the recently announced limited series is centered around Christmas Eve riots that started in 1983 in two small towns in Arkansas over Cabbage Patch Kids dolls. Dern and Rae will both star in and serve as executive producers on the aforementioned project.
