Some of you may remember the nighttime soap Dallas, which ran from 1978-1991 and was famous for its dramatic plot twists like “Who shot J.R.?” and “The Dream Season.” Well, TNT is continuing the famous show and it’s not just for the original viewers.

The show’s concept is very unique; it’s not a remake of the original, but just a continuation. The characters you know and love are the same – albeit a bit older than last time you saw them and with some new additions – and the storyline is already turning out to be pretty similar to the old one. It definitely feels like you missed a few years of their lives, but you get back in the swing of things pretty quickly.

The new version brings back many of the old actors; Patrick Duffy is back as Bobby Ewing and Larry Hagman is reprising his role as J.R. Ewing. In addition to the old actors, there are also new characters continuing the family battles. Josh Henderson is playing J.R.’s son, John Ross, and Jesse Metcalfe is portraying Bobby’s son, Christopher.

Speaking of the actors, Josh Henderson and Jesse Metcalfe seem to be doing a great job, and their respective fathers seem to be enjoying reprising their roles as well. Josh embodies the same manic behavior that J.R. used to portray so famously and Jesse continues Bobby’s legacy as the level-headed one. I can already sense the Christopher vs. John Ross battles that are sure to come. (Especially from the soon-approaching fangirls that will surely find both John Ross and Jesse attractive in that bad-boy vs. boy-next-door way.)

I know that I, personally, never got to see the original show, but this new version isn’t just for the fans of the original. This version explains everything that you need to know from the old series and the drama is just as enjoyable for everyone. It may seem like another cheesy soap opera, but there is definitely something more to this one.

The drama began last Wednesday with the two-hour series premiere. The show will continue to air every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. on TNT. Check it out!
