Iron Man 3’s DVD/Blu-ray release date has been revealed, and it may be hitting stores earlier than expected.

UPDATE: Iron Man 3’s DVD/Blu-ray release date has been officially announced.

According to ScreenCrush, Iron Man 3’s DVD/Blu-ray release date will be August 27. While previous Iron Man films have seen their DVD/Blu-ray’s hit stores in September, this is their first distribution by Disney, so it isn’t surprising that we may be seeing some changes.

While there are no special features to be announced as of yet, there have been rumors that the extra footage that was included for Chinese audiences will be edited into a short film which will be included in the DVD/Blu-ray. This footage doesn’t consist of much, just some additional scenes including Chinese actors Wang Xueqi and Fan Bingbing. Xueqi was the doctor that was seen putting Tony Stark to sleep during his procedure that involved removing the shrapnel in his chest.

We imagine there will also be some behind-the-scenes footage of the filming of Iron Man 3, along with some commentary from the cast and crew.

The DVD/Blu-ray may include the end credits sequences that we reported on recently, which didn’t make the film’s final cut, but were definitely worth checking out.

Iron Man 3 continued to do well at the box office this weekend, and just last week became Marvel’s latest film starring Robert Downey Jr. to join the $1 billion box office club. Iron Man 3 joined what is still a fairly exclusive club, along with the 15 other films that have grossed over $1 billion at the box office.

Plan on picking up ‘Iron Man 3’ when it comes out on DVD/Blu-ray?

The film was released on April 26 internationally, and May 3 in the U.S., and within 23 days of its release has crossed the $1 billion dollar mark. Disney now has their sixth billion dollar movie on their hands, the most for one studio.

Iron Man 3 currently sits at $1.073 billion at the worldwide box office, and we look forward to its August 27 DVD/Blu-ray release date.
