Netflix has pulled the plug on Iron Fist.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the online streaming platform has chosen not to renew the Marvel drama, Iron Fist, for a third season.

Representatives for Netflix and Marvel thanked the fans for tuning into the series’ two season run.

“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew, and showrunners,” reads the joint statement. “We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. Wile the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

Since its debut, Iron Fist has been riddled in controversy surrounding their decision to white wash the cast. The series has seen mixed reviews over the course of its short life, so it might not come as too much of a shock that the online streaming giant decided to pull the plug.

Even so, some have pointed to the language used in Netflix and Marvel’s joint statement, theorizing that perhaps while the series won’t be continuing on at Netflix, it might find new life elsewhere.

Specifically, it’s possible that Netflix may not have picked up the Marvel series for a third season because Disney may be looking to continue the series over on their own streaming platform, which is set to debut sometime next year.

We already know that Disney is ceasing their partnership with Netflix in an effort to eventually move all of their entities over to their new streaming platform, so we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s truth to the theories.

As for the rest of the Marvel television entities, THR also points out in their article that the plan is for Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and The Punisher to “remain on [Netflix] until they run their course, per the companies’ original five-show deal.”
