If you decide to watch a season of any show this summer, make it the first season of Orphan Black and you won’t regret it. In addition to the fantastic acting brought to you by Tatiana Maslany, the show has intrigue, character depth and oh so much more.

Orphan Black began its tenth episode run this year on March 30 with BBC America, and it’s slowly taking the country by storm.

Why, you ask? Not only is it one of the most creative shows currently running on television, it’s also fantastically produced and the acting brought to you by its main star, Tatiana Maslany, is simply the icing on an already perfect cake.

For those of you who don’t know, Orphan Black is a show centered around Sarah Manning, an orphan turned criminal and con-artist who comes across a woman who looks exactly like her at a train station, only to witness her commit suicide seconds later. Confused and shocked, Sarah swipes the bag of her now dead twin to see who she is and why they look identical, and discovers a realm of secrets, classified projects and a plethora of other women identical to her.

We’re no strangers to actors playing multiple roles in one film. Just look at The Parent Trap or, more recently, Cloud Atlas. This is, however, one of the first times we’re seeing such an in-depth character portrayal in a TV series.

This show would not be as good as it is without Tatiana Maslany, who absolutely deserves an Emmy for her already award-winning performance in the BBC America show. So far she’s won the Critic’s Choice Television Award for Best Leading Actress in a Drama series. She is also nominated at the Television Critics Association Awards for Individual Achievement in Drama.

As Orphan Black gains popularity throughout not only the U.S. but also around the world, we hope that she’ll make this year’s Emmy nominations and take home an award for a much-deserved performance.
