Into the Woods is becoming quite the star-studded affair. Could Anna Kendrick be coming aboard as the most iconic shoe-losing princess of them all?

Anna Kendrick is in talks with Disney to play Cinderella in their upcoming film adaptation of the classic Sondheim musical, Into the Woods.

The movie, scheduled for release in 2014 is being directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine) and is set to feature a laundry list of A-list stars. Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tracy Ullman and James Corden are all attached.

Corden and Blunt are set to play the baker and his wife, who set the fairy-tale-finding events in motion by travelling (where else?) into the woods to lift a curse that has been place on them.

Among the many classic characters they meet is, of course, Cinderella. The princess has apparently not been living so happily ever after with her prince (Gyllenhaal).

If Kendrick puts pen to the paper, we will get to hear more of that singing voice of hers that we got a taste of in last year’s sleeper hit, Pitch Perfect. If not, we’ll still get to hear it in her upcoming flick, The Last 5 Years, the musical adaptation she is currently filming.

Cinderella has two solo numbers in the original musical as well as a duet and, of course, a few group numbers. The show, written by Stephen Sondheim (music) and James Lapine (book) premiered on Broadway in 1987 and has been a mainstay in professional, community and educational theater ever since.

James Lapine is also credited with the screenplay for the film. The release date for Rob Marshall’s Into the Woods is December 25, 2014.
