Mary Kate Wiles is back for the second half of our exclusive interview, this time talking Squaresville, and answering fan questions about School of Thrones, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Lord of the Rings and more.

It is part two of our exclusive interview with web series royalty, Mary Kate Wiles. In part one we discussed the end of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, what we might expect in the finale of School of Thrones, and the possibility of more episodes. Wiles also talked exclusively to Hypable about her disappointment in not being cast as Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars movie, particularly in response to the recent casting announcement of Shailene Woodley.

Hypable’s interview with Mary Kate Wiles:

Hypable: How have you been enjoying people’s reactions to Squaresville season 2?

Mary Kate Wiles: It’s been good. Obviously there’s a lot of different elements thrown in in season 2 and people seem to like it. I really love the monologues, I think they are really cool and people seem to have responded to them so well.

This last episode that was mostly Zelda [Wiles’ character] and Wayne [played by David Ryan Speer] was my personal favourite episode of the season so far. When I read that scene, the makeout scene in her bedroom, I just thought it was the funniest thing. I hope people think it’s funny, because when she goes, “Okay, let me set a timer.” Everybody seems to be responding to it well so I am really happy.

Matt [Enlow, creator] released some preview pictures for our next episode, which is a cosplay episode, and I’m Spock. Which is so weird and not something I ever thought I would do, but I am glad he released those, it is getting people excited. That episode may turn the tides for Squaresville, it’s going to be so cool. We cosplay as seven or eight different characters each, it’s going to be really neat.

Can we have some hints for any of the other characters?

I didn’t know that he was going to release those pictures so soon, but it’s in the preview, you can see it. I can say that there are some other really popular fantasy/sci-fi shows, and also some older, more obscure things that we cosplay as. It’s fun, it’s a really great mix of all kinds of stuff. I think Matt is going to release a few more pictures before the episode comes out, so you may get some more hints.

I think in that episode I cosplay as mostly dudes and one girl, or a couple girls. It’s so weird, again something I never thought I would be doing but it’s really fun. I love that we got to do stuff like that in season 2 and there’s more – there’s another episode in the future that is also kind of out there, and that wasn’t stuff we go to do in the first season, so it’s exciting to explore those things.

Do you know how many episodes there will be in season 2?

I think it’s about the same as the first season, there are about 16 or so. The schedule is going to take us all the way into August or September. It’s weird because School of Thrones ends Sunday, unless we do more, and Lizzie Bennet ends actually on my birthday next week, and then Squaresville will continue on for some time.

Is there any talk about doing a Squaresville DVD?

I’m not sure about that actually. I’m sure it’s something we have thought about. I know that there’s a lot of things that go into making a DVD. I guess not for now, but maybe in the future they are going to want to compile the seasons and stuff, I hope so, I think that would be cool.

Mary Kate answers your Twitter questions (plus a few more of our own):

From Emma Kurtenbach: Do you get recognized often when you go out in public now, and how does it feel?

I have a few times. It’s not common at all, and because it’s not common, I act very strange every time it happens. I can tell that the person is looking at me or walking over to talk to me, and I have a terrible memory, so I think, “Oh my god I must have met this person. Who is it? I don’t remember, oh my gosh.” Then they come over and are like, “I love you in Lizzie Bennet,” and I’m like, “Oh! Thank you!”

And I feel like I look so awkward and weird, and I always wonder, “Why are you coming over to me?” because I am so not used to it. In the past few weeks especially it seems to be happening quite a lot. I live in L.A. and everybody is in something, so I am not a famous person by any means so it is always surprising when somebody knows who I am.

What about when you’re prepared, say at Leakycon or Vidcon? Was it easier to deal with then because you expect it?

I don’t know about easier, it’s not hard to deal with, but at the cons we are rockstars. At least last year, we couldn’t really go anywhere without asking for autographs and we ended up having a two hour signing session, impromptu in the hallway at Vidcon. Crazy, crazy stuff. That’s just unreal, that’s such a crazy thing to experience. I really like it, I really like seeing the people that love the show so much, and meeting them is really cool.

From Nicole: What have you learned from playing Lydia?

So much. I think the main thing that I have learned is really to not take people at face value, or not judge people based on my first impressions of them – which is funny considering that was the original title of Pride and Prejudice. If I were to meet Lydia on the street, especially pre-Wickham Lydia, I probably wouldn’t like her.

She would be really intense and I would think, “Who is this girl?” I would write her off as something that she’s not, and it was really cool to get to delve deep into her, and give her more than a passing thought, and I think that I will carry that with me in the future and I’m really thankful for that.

What about Sansa Stark, do you think you would like her if you met her on the street, wearing her hipster glasses?

I really like hipsters. I probably would think she was really cool, she’s cooler than me.

From Film Thrasher: What book would you like to see the team adapt next? I’ll add to this – even if you weren’t involved, which book are you dying to see adapted?

That’s a good question. One of my favourite books is David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. It’s been a long time since I have read that book, and obviously that is centered around a male and not a female. I just love the characters in that book, and obviously it’s such a great coming-of-age story so that would be interesting to see done that way.

And it would be a nice short series.

Yeah, just 800 pages.

Well you did Game of Thrones in three episodes, so it can be done.

I suppose that’s true.

Finally, from Marc Erickson: Do you have a nerd crush on Stephen Colbert?

I don’t have a crush on him, I’m very impressed by him. Again this is embarrassing, I live in a hole, but I have never watched The Colbert Report, I only see this through GIFs on Tumblr, when I see him. I would love to sit down and have a conversation with him, but I am sure he knows way more than I do. My Lord of the Rings love is limited to actually The Lord of the Rings, but there’s this whole world that he knows all about with The Silmarillion. Nerd talk!

Did you see The Hobbit?

I did see The Hobbit. I saw it three times, twice in 24 hours.

So you liked it.

I did like it. I don’t like it an much as Lord of the Rings, but I knew that I wouldn’t. I don’t like the book of The Hobbit as much as the books of The Lord of the Rings. I thought Martin Freeman was fantastic and such a great choice for Bilbo.

And you got to see Elijah again.

Yes! That might be my favourite part. I did think it was really cool that they started The Hobbit on the day that The Lord of the Rings starts. I thought that was really neat.
