Read the second part of our interview with Fringe star John Noble, in which he discusses next week’s series finale episode and which Walter he liked playing the most.

In case you missed it, yesterday we brought you the first part of our interview with John Noble, in which the actor previewed the Fringe finale and Walter’s fate.

In the second half of the interview, Noble discusses how he felt on the final day of filming the show, and why he has so deeply connected to the character of Walter.

The last day on set, Noble reflects, was not a sad one. “We had a lot of fun,” he says, sharing his memory of filming a scene with all of the four main stars (Noble, Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson and Jasika Nicole): “we all got a fit of the giggles which was probably very inappropriate,” Noble says. “It was just hilarious.”

He also talks about his final scene, which he filmed with Michael Cerveris (the Observer September). It was “beautiful,” he says, and the other cast members came out to watch them film it.

On his relationship with the other cast members, Noble reveals that, “I kind of think of them all as my kids, in a way. And I’ll miss them. We were given a chance to develop some really close bonds, and I don’t really know how to explain it […] it’s lifelong bond.”

Noble also speaks about his character Walter Bishop, whom he calls, “a gift of a character that has every actor’s dream.” While he loved Walternate, his favourite Walter to play was the original, as “he could basically say and do anything and get away with it.” The most difficult version was “the one I had to play when there was no Peter in the world. It was the same character, but without the relationship with his son redeeming him,” Noble says. “He really wasn’t a very pleasant man.”

Finally Noble talks about what he’ll be doing next. One of his projects is the Science Channel’s show Dark Matters, and he was drawn to it because of his own interest in science. “I find science really sexy,” Noble laughs, adding that he hopes that Dark Matters will get more people talking about it.

Looking ahead, Noble has no set plans yet. “I suppose my last two characters, Denethor [in The Lord of the Rings] and Walter, both will be hard acts to follow. But I’m ready to start work again.”

We can’t wait to see what John Noble will be doing next! And luckily we still get to enjoy him as Walter Bishop on Fringe for a bit longer – tonight’s episode “The Boy Must Live” airs at 9/8c on Fox, and next Friday we get the two-part series finale “An Enemy of Fate.”
