Following a week of teases, Lionsgate has released the first proper trailer for The Divergent Series: Insurgent.

In our best look at Insurgent to date, Tris (played by Shailene Woodley) continues to deal with Jeanine’s (Kate Winslet) wrath. Meanwhile, Tris thankfully has beloved characters like her romantic interest Four (Theo James) and her brother Caleb (Ansel Elgort) on her side.

The trailer sets up the film’s basic premise: Jeanine wants to track down all of the Divergents, so to fight back, Tris and Four team up with the factionless. Along the way they encounter enemies like trains, Eric (Jai Courtney), and Peter (Miles Teller).

Thankfully there’s always some time for a little romance. Towards the end of the trailer we get a few glimpses of Tris and Four’s lovemaking.

Update: As noted by a couple readers, the mystery box at the start of the trailer appears to be something that’s not found in the book. Filmmakers may’ve added it to give Jeanine more of a reason to want to investigate the Divergent – but this is just speculation on our part. Tris seems just as confused about the box as viewers.

Tris’ mother – who died in the first film – is once again very present in this trailer. We also get our first look at Daniel Dae Kim in his role as Candor’s Jack King, and Octavia Spencer as Amity leader Johanna.

While the first Insurgent teaser trailer was off-putting due to all of the CGI and the strange re-appearance of Tris’ mother, this trailer promotes the actual story being adapted from Veronica Roth’s novel.

To celebrate today’s trailer release, Lionsgate unveiled an interesting new Insurgent poster. It’s kind of two posters in one – you can flip it depending on whether you want Tris of Four looking down on you.

Insurgent is directed by Robert Schwentke, who we learned last week will be directing Allegiant, Part 1.

The movie opens in March.
