The first Insurgent trailer starring Shailene Woodley in the lead role of Tris debuted on Wednesday morning.

Update: Here’s the first poster for Insurgent which depicts Tris on her family’s home, which is floating. “Defy reality,” the tagline reads.

The trailer depicts Tris as she tries to save her mother Natalie Prior (played by Ashley Judd). As those who saw Divergent know, this scene can’t be grounded in reality since Tris’ mother is dead. OR IS SHE? (Kidding.)

In fact, we’re a bit surprised that the first trailer would focus squarely on a CGI-heavy scene that isn’t taking place in “reality.” Is it to show the loss that Tris is dealing with after the tragic events in the first film? Casual viewers will have no idea what is going on in this trailer. But maybe that’s intriguing?

Watch the Insurgent trailer below:

Insurgent opens March 20, 2015 in 2D and 3D starring Woodley, Theo James (Four), Kate Winslet (Jeanine). It is directed by Robert Schwentke.

According to the film’s official synopsis, Insurgent will find Tris and Four on the run, “hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.”

Posters for the film were released earlier this month and depict eight of the lead characters, including Tris, Four, Caleb, and Uriah.

With posters and now a trailer under our belt, promotion is well underway!
