Summit has asked Akiva Goldsman to help with the screenplay for the Divergent sequel Insurgent.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Goldsman is working on the Insurgent script, which was originally penned by Brian Duffield last year. The sequel is expected to begin shooting in the spring.

Divergent director Neil Burger announced last month that he won’t be returning to direct Insurgent because the schedules for the two movies overlap. A director for the second movie has yet to be named.

Goldsman’s screenwriting credits include A Beautiful Mind (for which he won an Oscar), The Da Vinci Code. He also co-wrote Cinderella Man, I, Robot and Angels & Demons.

Summit has set a March 2015 release date for Insurgent and a March 2016 date for the finale Allegiant.

The three films are based on the dystopian books of the same name by Veronica Roth.

Promotion for Divergent is quickly gearing up. Last week we learned that Ellie Goulding and Zedd will contribute new songs to the film’s soundtrack. You can listen to the latter’s song titled “Find You” at this link.

Thanks, THR.
