For as long as Instagram has existed, the photo sharing social network has forced you to put your photos into a square box.

Until now!

Instagram announced Thursday that their app now supports landscape and portrait formats in addition to the square format, meaning we no longer have to stress about what areas of a photo are about to get cut off. Snapchat users, rejoice!

The company recognized that people have struggled to deal with the square format and revealed in a blog post that 1/5th of posts actually aren’t square. Users have resorted to using 3rd party apps to put padding on their images so they fit in Instagram without losing any part of the image.

“Square format has been and always will be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you’re trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to,” Instagram wrote on their blog. “It turns out that nearly one in five photos or videos people post aren’t in the square format, and we know that it hasn’t been easy to share this type of content on Instagram: friends get cut out of group shots, the subject of your video feels cramped and you can’t capture the Golden Gate Bridge from end to end.”

Instagram shared a preview of what the new options look like:

For those who’ve come to love the square format, remember: You can still use the square format if you’d like.

Star Wars celebrated the new feature by unveiling a landscape-formatted preview of The Force Awakens. They must’ve received advance notice from Instagram, because this video was released as soon as Instagram made their announcement:

There has been an awakening… #StarWars #TheForceAwakens

The new landscape format will surely come as welcome news to advertisers like movie studios who don’t want parts of their film cut off in the app.
