Disney is gearing up to bring Inspector Gadget back to the big screen.

According to Deadline, Walt Disney Studios is in the process of developing yet another live-action adaptation of Inspector Gadget.

The studio has already appointed Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich to serve as producers on the project. Lin and Eirich’s involvement finds the producers continuing their partnership with Disney. Previously, the two served as producers on Disney’s live-action Aladdin adaptation, which hit theaters this past spring.

In addition to appointing producers, the studio has also tapped Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell to serve as screenwriters on the project.

Inspector Gadget first burst onto the scene in 1983 in the form of an animated series which shares the same name as its main character.

The animated series, which ran until 1983, centered on a cyborg police inspector who works for a secret police organization to help fight crime (usually orchestrated by the villainous Dr. Claw) across the world.

This, of course, won’t be Inspector Gadget’s first time gracing the silver screen.

Disney previously released a live-action adaptation of the hit animated series back in 1999.

Directed by David Kellogg, the 1999 adaptation starred Matthew Broderick as the titular cyborg police inspector, along with Michelle Trachtenberg, who played his niece/trusty sidekick, Penny.

There’s currently no word on when we can expect Disney’s new Inspector Gadget to premiere. That being said, given how many live-action adaptations the studio has coming down the pipeline, we’ll be interested to see where the newest title fits into their current release slate.
