A sequel to last year’s horror flick Insidious is in the works, and yesterday the release date and casting was announced!

Insidious 2 will hit theaters on August 30, 2013 and filming begins this January. The cast from the original film has signed on to the sequel, so we’ll see Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, and Ty Simpkins reprise their roles. James Wan is also set to return as director, with Leigh Whannell also returning to write the script. The low-budget thriller will be produced again by Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions.

Insidious was released in 2011, and it was about a boy who became possessed by demons. It was the most profitable film of 2011, as it’s budget was $1.5 million and earned $97 million at the box office.

No news about specifics of the plot have been released yet, but we’re thinking it’ll follow some sort of theme about a character being possessed by demons or communicating with an alternate world.

Patrick Wilson was most recently seen in Prometheus earlier this year, and Rose Byrne (also famously known for her role as the knifing Helen in Bridesmaids) will appear in A Place Beyond the Pines alongside Ryan Gosling later this year. Lin Shayne starred in the Farrelly Brothers adapation of The Three Stooges earlier in 2012.

What do you think about Insidious 2? Did you like the original? Are you happy about the sequel?
