The first extended look at Pixar’s Inside Out reveals what’s going on inside each person’s head when a simple family dinner turns into an argument.

The trailer uses a family dinner sequence to introduce us to Inside Out’s unique storytelling perspective. As you can see, the emotions inside the heads are more entertaining than anything we see “outside” of the head.

Instead of focusing on the film’s overarching plot, the trailer gives us a look at a scene in which Riley is having dinner with her family after her first day at school in their new home of San Francisco. Mom is looking to get Riley talking about her first day, while all dad can think about is a recent soccer game.

Today’s Inside Out trailer is the first time we’re seeing what director Pete Docter has planned for the other human characters supporting Riley. As reported yesterday by USA Today, mom’s emotions have a group of characters that are similar to a group of people on a daytime talk show, while dad’s emotions are very masculine. Notably, the emotions in Riley’s head are also in the heads of the parents, but their appearance reflects the person whose brain they’re in.

The parents are voiced by Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan, while Riley is voiced by Kaitlyn Dias. Riley’s emotions are voiced by Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black. There’s no word yet on who’s voicing the emotions inside of mom and dad’s heads.

Inside Out the “major emotion picture,” hits theaters June 19, 2015.
