While big games like Borderlands 2 and Assassin’s Creed III are the things people will wait hours in line for at PAX, the show is also a great spot for independent developers to get their games seen by the public. Here are a few games that stood out at the show that you will want to keep in mind.

Antichamber – This game has been shown for a few years now and has kept people talking about it at every stop. Antichamber is essentially a puzzle game, but it is unlike any you have ever seen. The game utilizes non-Euclidean geometry where moving through a room can make a drastic difference in what you see. Antichamber will mess with your brain more than any game before it. Check out the game’s teaser below to get a taste of what will be in store for you. The game will be available for PC and Mac sometime this year.

Guacamellee – If nothing else, this game had the best title of any on the show floor at PAX East. Guacamellee is a Mexican folklore-themed brawler that takes cues from other Metroidvania-style games. There is also a dimension-changing mechanic that only adds to the level of depth. The game is being developed by Drinkbox Studios, which also created the Tales From Space series and looks absolutely great so far.

Skulls of the Shogun – Another title that has been in development for years but is still impressive is Skulls of the Shogun. You play as a samurai general in feudal Japan who refuses to transition to the afterlife in this arcade strategy title. The game has a very low barrier of entry and has a great art style. Look for it later this year on Xbox Live Arcade and Windows Phone.

Mark of the Ninja – A 2D stealth game? While this may seem hard to pull off, Mark of the Ninja seems to be on the right track. Rather than hiding from enemies, like in most games in the stealth genre, this game relies on the player using the character’s mobility and positioning people to their advantage. Developer Klei Entertainment says the game will be out this summer for the Xbox 360.
