A super-sized trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence has hit the web. Let’s take a look!

The long-awaited sequel to Independence Day picks up the story 20 years after the original. There’s no Randy Quaid, Mary McDonnell or Will Smith (well… at least his picture is in there), but the franchise has picked up a Hemsworth brother, with Jeff Goldblum stepping up to take a major role and a lot of other familiar faces returning.

Directed by Roland Emmerich, Independence Day: Resurgence sees the aliens return to make another pass at conquering the world, and although humanity has done a lot to prepare for the inevitable attack, it looks like nothing will be enough to stop the second apocalypse.

Amazingly, a nearly five-minute (!) third trailer has just been released, with exactly one month left until the movie premieres. This is possibly a last-ditch effort to amp up hype for the movie, as it is definitely dwindling in anticipation polls.

Unfortunately this trailer doesn’t do much to assure us that the sequel is particularly original, nor that it retains the humor of the first installment. But the effects look damn good! Check it out and judge for yourself:

Here’s the official synopsis for the movie:

“We always knew they were coming back. After ‘Independence Day’ redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.”

Co-starring with Jeff Goldblum and Liam Hemsworth are Joey King, Maika Monroe, Judd Hirsch, William Fitchner, Jessie Usher, Bill Pullman, and Vivica A. Fox.

Independence Day: Resurgence invades a cinema near you on June 24, 2016.
